Future Competitions: Please check the notice board but dates to remember are:Summer Eclectic: This finishes on Saturday 24th October. –All strokeplay competitions on your designated day will automatically count, plus 6 wild cards.  If you haven’t put in all your wild cards yet there is still time to win!Winter Eclectic:                This starts on Saturday, 31st October and you are allowed 8 wild cards in total. JLGA Winter Stableford This is a popular annual competition and starts on 1st October 2009 and I do hope you have all entered as closing date is on 26th September.  Entry fees go toward the Island Games Ladies Golf Fund.  The format is similar to previous years – the 3 best 9 hole cards (stableford) to be submitted from the six courses available.  As in previous years there will be organized group visits during the winter months to the other clubs.  These will be on Friday mornings alternating with the Senior Ladies competitions, but remember the JLGA competition is for all members not just the seniors.  The golf is not normally brilliant but the fun over lunch afterwards always is.

Team Matches

On 2nd July we played Royal Jersey at home and the results were: Silver Team lost 2 ½ to 3 ½ and Bronze Team won 3 ½ to 2 ½.    At the beginning of August La Grande Mare ladies came to Les Mielles and we were determined to win back the Trophy from last year and did do so, 5 ½ to 3 ½.  The last match of the season is against Royal Guernsey on Thursday 15th October at home and will the team be playing 36 holes – foursomes in the morning and singles matchplay in the afternoon. Good luck to all the team and we will try our best to win back the trophy from last year in Guernsey.

Winter Coaching Sessions   Last winter Lynne Cummins ran some excellent lessons on the short game and is doing the same again.  The sessions have already started and are on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9.30 – 11.00 a.m. (Sundays, swing) at a cost of £10 commencing at the Driving Range.  There will be two elements covered each session and there is no need to sign up, but just turn up.  I would really recommend attending these lessons and spending time on the short game. The Wednesday clinics are also ongoing, starting with lesson from 9.15 – 10.15, chat over coffee and then play on the course, these are very useful for sorting out your swing.

Congratulations Our ladies have been doing very well during the summer at invitation days and opens often placing but I would like to mention the following:Pat Billington – Strokeplay winner La MoyeMargaret Vautier – outright winner of the St Clement’s Ladies OpenLesley Hill – winner of St. Peter’s OpenTracey Mollet – winner of Devil’s Hole

Membership  Welcome to two new members, Breeda Graham and Maureen Cox.  I hope they will enjoy their golf with us and have fun with Les Mielles Ladies both on and off the course. We also wish Margaret Vautier, Caroline Michel and their husbands all the best and speedy recovery after a car accident at the weekend.

Etiquette Just a reminder that you only need to sign up on the notice board and the booking office staff will input your name on the computer, unless you sign near to the competition in which case you must add your name to the computer.  Should you find you are unable to play please ring both your playing partners with your apologies – there have been times when a three ball has become a single player and then she has no-one to play with.  If we know in advance then the situation can be sorted out. Also if you are playing out of designated tee times please enter your tee time and name somewhere on the signup sheet on the notice board, this makes it easier for the Handicap Secretary to know when to collect the cards, when it comes to doing the results.   And finally, please always mark your card on the next tee and clear the green quickly, and if it is your honour please mark after you have teed off.  This just speeds things up a little and helps prevent hold-ups.

Invitation Day

A big thank you to all the members who made the Invitation Day last Tuesday so successful.  I hope you and your guests enjoyed the day and the lunch afterwards.  This year we had two new sponsors, ACV and Mercury at Home and we were pleased to have Caroline Ashworth from Mercury join us for lunch and present the prizes.

Charity Skydive As most of you know Patricia Parkin did a skydive on Monday 21st September.   She was raising money for my charity, Jersey Asthma Society and her charity, Riding for the Disabled, Jersey.  In total she has raised almost £2000 which is a fantastic amount.  She had a great time even with a bumpy landing!!

Winter Presentation and Annual General Meeting Tuesday 8th December is our AGM and once we have the business part of the evening out of the way we hand out all the prizes from competitions from mid July.   It is a great night and gives us a chance to chat to our fellow golfers and let our hair down over dinner and a few glasses of wine.
